Kevin Smith is adding some more names to the cast list for his upcoming political-horror film Red State.
Reportedly, Dermot Mulroney, Kyle Gallner, Michael Angarano and Steven Root are all in talks to co-star in the film. Additionally, Frozen River Oscar nominee Melissa Leo is also considering a role in the film.
Previously, Smith has cast Michael Parks in the role of the film’s villain, a “Fred Phelps-like” figure who will be chasing after a group of teens after the two somehow meet and not exactly hit it off.
Smith has stated in the past that he wanted to cast the film with unknowns, so as to not “take you right out of the flick.” Now, all of these people have credits in films that the average movie-goer may have seen. But they certainly don’t have a profile high enough that one could label as “movie star.”
Will he round out his cast with a group of faces that no one has seen yet? We’ll see, though he doesn’t have too much time to do so.
Smith tweeted yesterday that the start date for the movie is now set for late September –
