Peter Jackson is apparently sliding into the director’s chair for The Hobbit after all.
The Hollywood Reporter is stating that the Lord Of The Rings director is currently discussing with Warner Brothers/New Line to take the reings of the film, following Guillermo del Toro’s leaving the project last month. Del Toro walked in the face of further delays on the part of the film’s distributor MGM’s continuing financial problems.
Jackson had stated previously that he was only interested in producing and co-writing the planned two-part adaptation of JRR Tolkien’s classic fantasy novel The Hobbit. Some observers have stated that Warners was always going to try and woo Jackson in to the director’s position and that they have not been doing much in the way of searching for another director over the past several weeks.
But really, is anyone surprised by this turn of events?
