1. Iron Man 2 (Paramount, 4,380 Theaters, 124 Minutes, Rated PG-13): Here comes Iron Man 2, and now the summer can truly begin.
I have to say that I have some nagging doubts about this film. And that’s before I saw some of the less-than-positive reviews.
My concerns started when the cast list came out and I saw all the Marvel characters shoe horned into the film. Bill’s Rules of Bad Comic Book Films #1: The more comic book characters you put in the film, the less likely it will be good (see: Batman and Robin, Batman Forever, and Spider-Man 3).
But before that, it all looked good. Most of the same creative personnel were returning. It was written by Justin Theroux, who wrote the better than average Tropic Thunder. It should have been dead solid perfect.
Maybe it’s just a case of the first film raising expectations too high for all those critics. But Bill’s Rules usually don’t lie.
I guess I’ll find out on Tuesday. I wanted to go see it tonight, but work reared its nasty head. Tuesday will be the first free day I’ll where I can see it.
