It looks like that talked about Men In Black sequel is a go with Sony officially placing it on their release schedule. We can expect Men In Black III in 3D to hit theaters in just 24 months on May 25, 2012.
So far, we know that Barry Sonnenfeld will be back in the director’s chair. Will Smith has signed on to return, picking this film over a number of other projects. (One of those was supposedly a remake of the 1970 science-fiction thriller Colossus: The Forbin Project, so we probably dodged a bullet there.)
The studio is still negotiating with franchise star Tommy Lee Jones and series newcomer Josh Brolin, who play a younger version of Jones’ Agent Kay character in the film’s time travel laden plot.
Although two years away, summer 2012 is starting to shape up into one of the biggest geek movie seasons in a while. In addition to Men In Black 3, Sony will have their Spider-Man reboot hitting theaters, while other studios will be offering up the superhero team-up film The Avengers, a third Batman film, Star Trek 2, John Carter Of Mars and more.
