Walt Disney is developing a remake of their 1979 film The Black Hole. While it is not unusual anymore for a studio to be looking to its back catalog for material to develop into new films, what makes this particular bit of remake news interesting is that attached to this project is Tron: Legacy director Joseph Kosinski and producer Sean Bailey. As Kosinski is a first-time feature director with Tron: Legacy, I think that Disney bringing him aboard this new project is a good sign for how Tron: Legacy is shaping up. If they weren’t happy, they wouldn’t want to stay in the Joseph Kosinski business, would they?
Details of the script by Clash Of The Titans remake writer Travis Beachum are scarce, but the Hollywood Reporter‘s Heatvision Blog revealed-
[T]he take does involve grounding the story in the science of a black hole, much more so than in the original. [Evil robot henchman] Maximilian also would return.
But what I want to know is, will the original film’s rather trippy, indecipherable ending make a return? I think it is high time that a new generation of children be traumatized!
