MEN IN BLACK III Gets A Writer

You will forget Men In Black II...Tropic Thunder scripter Etan Cohen has been hired by Columbia Pictures to write a third Men In Black science-fiction comedy.

And that’s it… There’s not much else to report about the project. Stars Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones and director Barry Sonnenfeld have not commented as to whether they’ll be back for this new installment in some capacity or not, but I expect that it’ll depend on on whether they like what pops out of Cohen’s computer or not. So long as they bring back the lovely Rosario Dawson…

But has Cohen the goods to deliver a script that is at least better than the disappointing Men In Black II? Tropic Thunder was a fairly solid comedy built on a rather good high concept, though he was working with Ben Stiller and Justin Theroux. He has worked with Mike Judge a lot, first on episodes of Beavis & Butthead and King Of The Hill and then on Judge’s second feature film Idiocracy. He also has a couple of projects in development including Candy Land and a Sherlock Holmes comedy for Will Farrell.
