After many delays which have pushed the release of this film’s release back several months, we finally are getting our first good look at Peter Jackson’s film The Lovely Bones.
The story of a teenage girl, played by Saoirse Ronan, who is murdered and then watches over her family from the after life, Jackson shot much of the exteriors in the Philadelphia suburbs back in the fall of 2007, with additional shooting at his studios in New Zealand into early 2008. Since then, Jackson and crew have been working to realize the after life where Ronan’s character finds herself. He got some additional time to create this world when it was decided to push the film’s planned release this past March to the middle of Academy Awards season this December.
And the extra time seems to have been put to good use, as the glimpses we see are perhaps the most imaginative and beautiful visualizations of heaven since 1998’s What Dreams May Come.
