New Releases: July 1

iceage3poster1. Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs (FOX, 3,993 Theaters, 94 Minutes, Rated PG): Ah, two movies on Wednesday, none on Friday. Getting a jump on the Fourth of July. Means after I post this, I’m done for the week New Release wise. Sweet.

Yes, yet another installment in this franchise, which, and correct me if I’m wrong, has lasted longer than the real ice age.

Don’t get me wrong, I don’t hate this franchise. It’s got its charms I guess. It’s just that in never really thought that the first film would be this unstoppable sequel factory.

Well, regardless. The whole cast is back for more adventures which, I assume, involves dinosaurs dawning.

publicenemiesposter2. Public Enemies (Universal, 3,200+ Theaters, 140 Minutes, Rated R): Or, as a good friend put it, what if Michael Mann remade The Untouchables?

Maybe that’s why I’m not as excited as I should be about this movie. I mean, Johnny Depp AND Christian Bale in the same film? That should rock.

But it seems to me like they replaced Al Capone with John Dillinger and Elliot Ness with Melvin Purvis. Because, really, wasn’t The Untouchables the end all, be all of stylized looks at the Prohibition-era gangster? And hasn’t all you need to know about John Dillinger been told in his previous cinematic incarnations?

I don’t know. Maybe I’m in the minority here.
