Trailer: FAME

After watching the new trailer for this fall’s upcoming remake of Fame (below), I was left with one question- Is it in Kelsey Grammer’s contract that whatever character he plays, he gets to wear a sweater vest?

If what we see in the trailer is any indication, this revamp of the 1980 Oscar-inning film about students at New York’s High School for the Performing Arts features what appears to be some standard character types- the young kid struggling to get out of the ghetto who no one believes in, the big fish who suddenly finds themselves in a pond much bigger than what they are used to, the gifted student who doesn’t realize her true potential, the teacher prone to making inspirational speeches.

But then again the original film had similar stereotypes, but managed to make them three-dimensional. We’ll get to see how well this new version is able to breath life into them on September 25, 2009.
