Josh Peck and Adrianne Palicki are joining MGM’s redo of the 1980s Cold War fantasy Red Dawn. They will be joining the previously announced Chris Hemsworth for the remake of director John Milius’ story of a group of high school students who form a ragtag resistance to an invasion and occupation of the United States by a combination of Soviet and Cuban troops.
Hemsworth is set to play Jed Eckert, a United States marine on leave at the time of the invasion, who leads the group who go under the name of their high school mascot, the Wolverines. Patrick Swayze played the role in the original film. Peck will be playing Jed’s younger brother Matt, originally played by Charlie Sheen. Palicki will be taking on Jennifer Grey’s role of Toni Mason.
Still no official word as to who will be taking over the role of the invading Soviet army.
MGM hopes to have their remake of Red Dawn on the screen on September 24, 2010.
