You know that things are going good with the world when director Terry Gilliam has not one, but two film projects in development. The first, his remount of The Man Who Killed Don Quixote, we told you about last weekend. Of course, its start date is very dependent on the rather packed schedule of star Johnny Depp.
But while Gilliam is reworking the Quixote screenplay in anticipation of a hole in Depp’s schedule, he is also gearing up to start shooting The Zero Theorem as early as May 1, according to the French site ToutLeCine.Billy Bob Thorton is on board to take the lead.
Gilliam has been developing the screenplay with University of Florida English Professor Pat Rushin. From what I’ve heard about the story – and I’ve been trying to avoid spoilers on this one – it sounds as if it will be a smaller scale film than some of Gilliam’s epic fantasies. Brendon Connelly over at SlashFilm is lucky enough to have read the script and has a review.
If all goes well, this is still teryy Gilliam we’re talking about, The Zero Theorem should be in theaters some time in 2010. (Now if we could get some concrete details on the release of The Imaginarium Of Dr. Parnassus….)
