I would imagine that one of the hardest things to do as a teen star on teh Disney Channel is timing your career transition to more adult roles. High School Musical heartthrob Zac Efron seems to be managing the process fairly well with a role in 2007’s Hairspray giving way to 2008’s Me And Orson Welles.
Now it seems another High School Musical star is making a break for new and different roles as MTV is reporting that Vanessa Hudgens has auditioned for a role in the sequel to the teen vampire romance hit Twilight, New Moon. The role in question is that of the werewolf Leah Clearwater.
I’m sure that this probably has Twilight fans in all sorts of tizzies. Can Hudgens, best known for her role as the sweet tempered girlfriend to Zac Effron both on and off the screen, play the aggressive Leah?
Well, kids, that’s why they have auditions, to see if an actor is capable of handling a role. Now granted, there are other factors that may come in to play as to who gets a role. An actor’s marquee value may certainly have an influence on whether they get a role and Hudgens certainly has a certain box office pull among tweens and teens. But does Twilight, and its already built in fanbase, really need some insurance at the box office like a big name draw?
Either way, Hudgens doesn’t have the part yet. But I’m sure that will not stop incessant chatter on Twilight bulletin boards and chat rooms.
