1. Quantum of Solace (3,451 Theaters, 106 Minutes, Rated PG-13): So powerful is Her Majesty’s Secret Service that when Mr. Bond arrives on the scene, all other movie studios give him plenty of room!
The James Bond franchise is one of the most malleable ones in all of cinematic history. Just think, it’s gone through actor changes, thematic changes, director changes—things that would have fans of other franchise up in arms—and it has lasted for 22 installments. It even survived a goofy, hard to understand title like “Quantum of Solace”. Pretty darn resiliant.
This one features Bond trying to balance his secret agent duties with a quest for revenge. I think he’ll manage to fit both those things in.
I don’t think any Fleming title should irreverently be referred to as “goofy”. I think it’s nice that after a period of “newly created” titles, they are going back to the remaining short stories for at least the film titles, giving a nod to Fleming.
