Forget Nixon/Frost. I’m more looking forward to the next Pegg/Frost collaboration.
Simon Pegg and Nick Frost, the stars of Shaun Of The Dead and Hot Fuzz, are teaming for a third film, Paul, a road comedy sure to appeal to the hearts of geeks everywhere. The two will star as friends who, after going to the San Diego Comics Con, head out on a road trip to Area 51. There, they meet an alien named Paul, who asks the duo for help in getting back home.
Part of me thinks that the story sounds like something that would be pitched in the writer’s room of Family Guy, but that’s a good thing. Pegg and Frost are collaborating on the script, so there shouldn’t be any of the problems of them fitting into their characters the way Pegg had with roles in some other films he didn’t help write.
Paul will mark the first time that the duo are on the screen without the direction of Edgar Wright. Wright, who also co-authored Shaun and Hot Fuzz with Pegg, will be in preparations for his next film, Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World, though he will serve as an executive producer for Paul. Stepping behind the cameras will be Greg Mottola, the director of Superbad and next spring’s Adventureland. The film starts shooting in New Mexico in March.
