Last Sunday on CinemaBlend’s Weekly Blend podcast, Kevin Smith mentioned that the science fiction project he has mentioned in recent interviews as being a possible future project is not the Ranger Danger kids adventure movie that he has mentioned in the past. Instead, Smith feels “this new thing has kind of replaced it [Ranger Danger] as something I want to do.”
In recent interviews, Smith has mentioned that he wants to work again with Seth Rogen, the star of his upcoming comedy Zack And Miri Make A Porno, possibly in this as-yet-unnamed film.
Previously, Smith has teased fans about the film through a t-shirt worn by Jeff Anderson’s character Randall wore in Clerks II. When Smith originally talked about the film – its full name is Ranger Danger And The Danger Rangers – he described it as a science fiction adventure along the lines of Flash Gordon. The one image connected to the film and featured on Anderson’s shirt show a hero with a rocket pack much like 1940s serial hero Commando Cody or the high flying adventurer from 1991’s The Rocketeer. Smith has stated that he is a fan of the latter film, having bought one of the film’s prop jet packs and using it as set direction in his 2001 film Jay And Silent Bob Strike Back.
C’mon, Kevin, admit it–we’re NEVER to get that FLETCH movie, are we?
Unfortunately Smith passed on doing FLETCH back in October 2005, as Miramax boss Harvey Weinstein wouldn’t let him cast Jason Lee in the title role. (This was pre- MY NAME IS EARL.)
Currently, SCRUBS-creator Bill Lawrence is dveloping a new script for a FLETCH movie with SCRUBS star Zach Braff set to star as Irwin M. Fletcher.
Hopefully, we’ll have something related to that project in the next week or two for you to read.
