Admitedly, when MGM first made noise that it was going to produce a new Robocop picture, I was not particularly excited by the prospect. While Paul Verhoeven’s original 1987 movie was a stunning film that combined violence with subtle social satire, the following two sequels failed to live up to their promise.
But now, the prospect of a relaunch of the franchise certainly sounds better than it did yesterday, as MGM has announced that Darren Aronofsky will be directing the film with David Self penning the screenplay.
Although MGM has not officially greenlit the film for production, they reportedly want it ready for a 2010 release.
