I have to admit that there’s something about the title of Kevin Smith’s currently in production comedy, Zack & Miri Make A Porno, that always makes me laugh. Perhaps it is the simple sentence structure recalling old children’s book titles, a la Curious George Goes To The Zoo, juxtaposed against the decidedly adult task of producing pornography.
The adults in this case are Seth Rogen and Elizabeth Banks, seen her in the first still released from the film. They play the titular (no pun intended) life-long friends who decide to produce their own porn video as a way of paying off their mounting (another pun unintended) debts.
But will a comedy about amateur porn attract folks to the box office? Industry analyst Jeff Bock, quoted in the USA Today article that featured this picture, seems to think so, claiming “It’s one of the best titles of the year.”
Smith certainly doesn’t have any qualms about using the word “porno” in the title. “We’re just hoping that by the time the movie comes out, if the marketing people do their jobs right, it’s a word that people will kind of get over.”
We’ll find out next fall when the film hits theaters.
