Like we didn’t see this coming.
Despite its large drop off at the box office this past weekend, Paramount Pictures is already in talks with Cloverfield director Matt Reeves to helm a sequel to January’s giant monster-munches-Manhattan hit. The project won’t be able to go any further though, until the Writers Guild strike is resolved so that the studio can then negotiate with scripter Drew Goddard.
Previously, Reeves had hinted at a possible sequel storyline by speculating that perhaps there had been more than one camera recording during the evening of the monster’s attack. However, Cloverfield‘s unique premise makes it a difficult prospect to try and duplicate. Done wrong it will make the first film stand out like a one trick pony. If they try to expand the fictional world they’ve created, they run the risk of having a Book Of Shadows: Blair Witch 2– type disaster on their hands.
