Yes, we know we reported over the weekend that Gemma Arterton had been cast in the new James Bond film, currently in production in London. However, it appears that the speculation that her character would not be the main female lead in the film has been confirmed by the announcement that Ukrainian model-turned-actress Olga Kurylenko will play leading lady to Daniel Craig’s Bond.
Kurylenko’s character Camille will, according to a press release, “challenge Bond and help him come to terms with the emotional consequences of Vesper’s betrayal,” referencing a major plot point from 2006’s franchise reboot Casino Royale.
Kurylenko has previously appeared in last year’s Hitman and 2006’s Paris, Je T’aime.
Returning to the cast from Casino Royale are Dame Judi Dench, as Bond’s boss M, Jeffrey Wright as Bond’s CIA agent friend Felix Leiter and Giancarlo Giannini as the possibly traitorous Mathis. French actor Mathieu Amalric joins the series as the villainous Dominic Greene, head of the terrorist organization Bond first crossed swords with in Casino Royale.
We still don’t have a title for the film which is in production under the temporary title of Bond 22.
