STOPPING POWER Stopped Again

Jan De Bont’s on-again/off-again thriller Stopping Power is off again. As was the case the first time the plug was pulled on the project last month, investor withdrawal is the cause being given for the project’s plug being pulled. The movie was slated to star John Cusack as a test pilot who has to rescue his daughter from German kidnappers.

While the plot seems fairly standard, the one thing that sounded intriguing about the film is that De Bont had stated that the film’s final 51 minutes would be one continuous chase scene. While that might sound like crazy bravado from some directors, De Bont has Speed – a film which is primarily one long action sequence – to his credit, so the prospect of him shooting a chase scene that would encompass approximately half of the film’s run time was exciting.

De Bont has not been having much luck recently. Earlier this year, De Bont’s adaptation of the giant prehistoric shark novel Meg was dead in the water at New Line.
