Wong Kar Wai Gets Jury Duty: Chinese director Wong Kar Wai has been selected president of the jury for the Cannes Film Festival. Wong becomes the first Chinese jury president in the festival’s history. The Cannes Film Festival runs May 17th to the 28th.
Guild Award Nominations Announced: Awards season gets into full swing with the Screen Actors Guild, the Directors Guild of America, the American Society of Cinematographers, the Visual Effects Society, the Producers Guild of America and the Writers Guild of America all announcing their nominations for their various guilds’ awards. Jack Wiener- The producer of the films as The Eagle Has Landed (1976) and F/X (1986) has passed away at age 79. Vincent Schiavelli- The droopy-eyed character has passed away at age 57. Beverly Tyler- The Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer contract player has passed at age 78. Robert Newmyer- The independent film producer behind the hits sex, lies and videotape (1989) and Training Day (2001), has passed away at age 49.
