Halloween Original Camera Negatives Discovered By Rich Drees
In a statement made on the horror film site Fangoria.com, May said that they have recovered almost 45,000 feet of film, which will need to be cataloged before any determination can be made as to where and how to present the footage. May also states that he hopes to involve friend and film preservationist Robert Harris in any restoration and preservation of the footage.
The negatives are expected to yield myriad alternate takes of familiar scenes and bloopers. Specifically expected to be found among the footage is an alternate version of the film’s “clothesline” scene and an earlier version of the film’s ending in which killer Michael Myers dies. One of the boxes of footage was marked “1981” and is expected to hold footage shot for the film’s broadcast television version.
While May has not reviewed all the footage, he has screened a few reels and reported that “The negatives were in such good shape, they looked as if they were shot yesterday.”
“The sequences I randomly grabbed were Jamie Lee Curtis talking on the phone and carving the pumpkin, and the sequence where Kyle Richards tries to pull Nancy Loomis out of the laundry room window,” May told the website. “Poor little Kyle doesn’t quite succeed and, after failing to pull Nancy properly, just turns, looks at the camera and shrugs. An obvious blooper! God only knows what else we’ll find.” |
