In Remembrance: Plato Skouras

     Plato Skouras, the independent film producer of the anti-communist documentary We Will Bury You, has passed away Sunday, July 4, 2004 in Brinkley, Arkansas. He was 74.

     Born in Rue, New York, the son of Spyros P. Skouras, president of 20th Century Fox from 1943 to 1962. After graduating from Yale University’s drama department, he worked in New York area theatres owned by his family before going onto invest in film production. He relocated to Los Angeles, where worked at 20th Century Fox as a production assistant. He formed the independent film company Perseus Productions with his brothers and produced several films and documentaries including the westerns Apache Warrior (1957) and Sierra Baron (1958) and the bio-pics Villa! (1958) Francis Of Assisi (1961, directed by Michael Curtiz).

     In 1974, Skouras and his wife Barbara relocated to her hometown of Brinkley to open a restaurant, although he continued to develop scripts.
