In Remembrance: Michel Colombier

     Michele Colombier, the composer who scored 100 film and television projects has passed away on November 14, 2004 in Santa Monica, CA. He was 65.

     Born on May 23, 1939 in Lyon, France, Colombier was classically trained at the Paris Conservatory where he studied piano. The first film he scored was the 1964 French spy thriller Coplan, Agent Secret FX 18. His first Hollywood film scored was 1969’s western romance Backtrack!.

     Colombier was known for his flexibility whose versatility ranged from composing both rock-inspired tracks for the musical Purple Rain (1984) to more classical scores like the one he composed for White Nights (1985).

     Other films he composed for include Colossus: The Forbin Project (1970), Against All Odds (1984), The Money Pit (1986), Ruthless People (1986), The Golden Child (1986), Major League II (1994), How Stella Got Her Groove Back (1998) and Swept Away (2003).

     Colombier composed the music for the ABC made-for-TV movie Double Switch (1987) and various episodes of HBO’s Tales From The Crypt series. He also composed chamber music pieces and more than 20 ballets.
